‘Stay away from tribalism’ Kiir urges senior government officials

March 31, 2020 (Thessherald)–South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has urged the newly appointed ambassadors and senior officials to stay away from tribal politics and focus on their diplomatic assignments.

Addressing TGNU officials, during the swearing-in ceremony, President Kiir called for more cooperation between government post holders.

“President Salva Kiir Mayardit presided over the swearing in ceremony of the Senior Presidential Adviser to R-TGoNU, Hon. Kuol Manyang Juuk, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Beatrice Khamisa Wani, First and second Deputy governors of the Bank of South Sudan, and the recently appointed 11 ambassadors in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation,” said the Presidency in its statement.

Adding that, “President Salva Kiir urged the newly ambassadors to work collectively with the foreign ministry reflecting a positive image of the country, also, President Salva Kiir urged the ambassadors to distance themselves from ethnic divisions.”

The oath taking ceremony was administered by the Deputy Chief Justice, Justice John Gatwich Lul (PhD) at the State House on Tuesday, in a ceremony witnessed by senior government officials.

Kiir noted that discussions are underway to resolve the pending allocation of state governments.

“President Salva Kiir congratulated the newly appointed officials and reminded them of their duty to the nation. In addition, the President outlined that the parties are still in negotiations over the allocation of the states.”

For his part, the newly appointed senior presidential advisor to R-TGoNU, Kuol Manyang, welcomed his appointment and underlined that there are many challenges to be addressed.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the R-TGoNU, ambassador Beatrice Khamisa Wani stated that she would do her utmost to protect South Sudan’s image in foreign countries.
