S. Sudan’s talented refugee makes homemade hygiene kits for refugees

May 5, 2020 (Thessherald)–A 23-year old talented South Sudanese refugee living in Dadaab refugee camp has stepped up the fight against the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic by making face masks, bar soap and other hygiene products locally.

“Adhieu Achuil Dhieu is a South Sudanese refugee from Dadaab and a DAFI scholarship beneficiary studying at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology,” said the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR.

The homemade hygiene items have been safely delivered to various refugee camps and will go a long way towards preventing the spread of the disease.

“Using skills gained from the camp, she has made over 3,000 masks and homemade bar soaps to fight COVID-19. The items were delivered to Dadaab, Kakuma & urban refugees.”

“UNHCR and its partners continue to increase efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to Dadaab and Kakuma refugee camps, as well as in urban areas.”
