June 10, 2020 (Thessherald)–An immediate family member refutes widespread speculation on social media, alleging that the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of South Sudan, Maror Chier Rehan had died of COVID-19.

“This is not true, the untimely death of the late Maror is not associated with COVID-19, such people responsible for posting fake news updates on social media even issues related to death should respect the dignity of the deceased and their family members,” said the relative who declined to be mentioned.

The relative confirmed that the former official was suffering from high blood pressure, which led to his death in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

“The death was actually caused by hypertension, he has never been tested positive for the COVID-19 pandemic.”

In recent months, South Sudan has been beset by fake news updates from unreliable news outlets, making it difficult for news consumers to get the right information from the right sources.
