June 11, 2020 (Thessherald)–South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has heaved a sigh of relief after his Deputy, Dr. Riek Machar and other top officials were discharged earlier this week as they had fully recovered from COVID-19.

“Excellency, This note conveys my sense of relief and pleasure at your recovery and that of the Cabinet Ministers that were diagnosed with corona virus. I am glad that all of you will join us soon in the work of tackling pending issues in the Revitalized Agreement implementation as well as challenges posed by covid-19,”said President Kiir in a statement.

President Kiir sends a message to those who have not recovered, wishing them a speedy recovery.

“As I express my happiness for your recoveries, I am mindful that we still have over 1,600 of our citizens who are recovering from corona virus. To these compatriots, I equally convey my well wishes and prayers for their speedy recovery.

The President commends medical professionals working around the clock to contain the spread of the virus and urges them to take care of the patients as they count of them for medical advice.

“To medical professionals who are working tirelessly in a difficult situation to contain covid-19, remember that all those who have recovered and patients who are still in your care owe their lives to your professionalism.”

“And for that, we cannot thank you more! While we are tested by this relentless pandemic and the unfinished work of finalizing the formation of the Revitalized Agreement, we are determined to pull through those challenges in the days ahead.”

“Let us all stand united as we tackle corona virus while working to consolidate peace by constructively discussing issues where parties have not reached the consensus with a goal of arriving at amicable solutions.
