SPLM-IO member arrested by National Security agents in Yirol: relative

June 21, 2020 (Thessherald)–A die-hard supporter of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-IO, identified as John Juba, has reportedly been arrested by a group of National Security agents, who accused him under unclear circumstances.

According to one of his immediate relatives, the accused, John was arrested by the security forces in defunct Eastern lakes state after exchanging words with his friends which he did not think would land him in trouble in the hands of the National Security Service.

“John was arrested under mysterious circumstances, he was arrested and we do not know the reason for his arrest until now. When the National Security personnel arrived at his residence in Yairol this morning,” the family member said.

The family criticised members of the National Security Service for detaining an unarmed civilian and locking him up in the NSS detention center.

“He is just a civilian, he should never have been arrested by the NSS agents.”

He is now behind bars in Lakes State and the family said they were being denied access to see him.

“John Juba has been put under close surveillance by the state’s National Security authorities owing to his vocal support of the rebel movement, the SPLM-IO in Yirol. he writes his own opinion as an independent minded person,” the family explained.
