July 5, 2020 (Thessherald)–Two leaders of the Bul community, Stephen Buay Rolnyang and Major-General Mathew Puljang have held a reconciliation meeting in an attempt to find common ground on their differences – which led to an intense military confrontation in 2018.
In a statement on Sunday, the former military commander, Stephen Buay confirmed that they had amicably settled their differences in the interest of peace in their community.
“This is to inform all our people that Major General Mathew Puljang and I, have resolved our differences that ignited my arrest in 2018, by forces under the command of Major General Mathew Puljang Top,”
“We have realised that our differences were created and instilled by some individuals within our community for political reasons.”
Buay appreciates Major-General Mathew Puljang and spiritual leaders who have been instrumental in bringing peace and tranquility in the community.
“I thank General Bapiny Manytuil, Bul spiritual leaders, acting chairman of Bul community Mathew Wanbang Nyater and the rest of Bul intellectuals for encouraging two of us to reconcile with each other for the sake of peace and unity among our people. Now the two of us have reconciled amicably. Thanks to almighty God.”
Gen Stephen Buay Rolnyang, was a high-ranking military commanding the SPLA’s 5th Infantry Division in Wau before he was ordered to remain in Juba – a move that sparked tensions in Bentiu.
He was later captured by a group of special forces commanded by Major-General Mathew Puljang Top in Mayom and flown to Juba after he failed to comply with orders issued by the country’s military command in Juba.
