Kiir shocked by gruesome murder of 3 children, vows severe punishment

August 3, 2020 (Thessherald)–South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has expressed deeply shock at the recent horrific incident in which – three children were brutally murdered in cold blood in the Rock City neighborhood on Saturday – sparking nationwide outrage.

Statement on Callous Murder of Children in Juba

“Like all South Sudanese across this country, I am shocked and saddened by the heartless murder of innocent children at Rock City residential area in Juba on August 1″, 2020. I offer my heartfelt condolences to the parents of the children, rock city residents, residents of Juba and all South Sudanese who are grappling with the magnitude of this crime. The pain and trauma inflicted on us by the perpetrator(s) of this crime is enormous, but we, as a country, will prevail.”

Kiir calls on members of the public to inform law enforcement agencies, if they have any information about the perpetrator (s) who committed such a heinous crime in broad daylight.

“We will work tirelessly to make this criminal pay dearly for this heinous crime. To this effect, I am directing law enforcement agencies to use every tool in their disposal towards expeditious apprehension and trial of the suspect(s) in this unjustifiable murder.”

“I would also like to appeal to the members of the public who may know something about this case to support investigations by passing information to the police to help them solve this barbaric act,” he added.

The head of state offers his condolences and a message of solidarity to the family of the deceased for their loss.

“As we mourn these children, let us stand in solidarity with their parents and pray that God will give them inner strengthen to help them cope with this tragedy. With the deepest sympathies, Salva Kiir Mayardit President, Republic of South Sudan Juba.”

The brutal killing of the three children has angered citizens and sparked condemnations from members of the diaspora.

No one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
