Sept 27, 2020 (Thessherald)–The SPLM-IO nominated Governor for Upper Nile state, General Johnson Olony Thambo is scheduled to be appointed tomorrow, a reliable source said in an interview this afternoon.
“Based on the agreement reached by the presidency, the person in question [Johnson Olony] will be appointed on Monday,” the source disclosed on Sunday.
The appointment of Johnson Olony has been a stumbling block as the Kiir Administration demands Machar to select another individual within the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-in-Opposition (SPLM-IO) for the position.
Last week, the Press Secretary in the Office of the First Vice-President, James Gatdet Dak confirmed that the Parties had made significant progress and agreed on a number of outstanding issues, including the appointment of Johnson Olony as governor of Upper Nile State.
“The Governor of Upper Nile State is expected to be appointed this month,” said James Gatdet Dak in a brief statement.
He also noted that the parties had reached consensus on the formation of state governments in a timely manner.
“It is expected that all States governments will be formed soon within the next 10 to 15 days, hopefully. Necessary needed procedures for graduation and deployment of unified forces are also underway.”
