Oct 5, 2020 (Thessherald)–A group of South Sudanese students studying on a government scholarship in Cuba are requesting the government to send them airfare that would enable them to return home.

According to group representatives, the medical students are now eager to return home and salvage the country’s weak healthcare system, which has been affected by years of conflict.

“We’re stranded, and we need financial assistance from the government so that we can return home and contribute in nation-building by joining the fight against the global pandemic,” said one of the group members.

South Sudan’s health infrastructure has been devastated by the conflict that broke out in 2013 between the government forces and rebel groups.
