Dec 23, 2020 (Thessherald)—The Office of the Chairman of the SPLM-IO, Dr. Riek Machar, issued a statement on Tuesday informing members of the public that the SPLM-IO had completed submitting the list of nominees, and are expected to be appointed to the Transitional National Legislative Assembly soon.
“The Office of the Chairman and Commander — In — Chief, and the First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan, H. E. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, PhD would like to inform the SPLM/SPLA (10) Members and the public at large that, SPLM/SPLA (10) has finished consultations with all its members regarding formation of Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA), Council of States, State and Local Governments as well as the Administrative Areas,” the Office of the First Vice President confirmed in a statement.
With the exception of Upper Nile State, the main opposition party said it had completed the selection of its nominees for the Council of States, 9 States and Local Governments and Administrative Areas.
“In this regard, the First Vice President and Chairman and Commander — In — Chief, SPLM/SPLA (10) has officially submitted to H. E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, the President of the Republic and National Constitutional Amendment Committee (NCAC) the list of all nominees to the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA), Council of States, 9 States and Local Governments and Administrative Areas.”
“The nominees of Upper Nile State shall be submitted at a later date,” the statement further added.
Yesterday, an advance team of General Johnson Olony arrived in Juba, paving the way for his long-awaited appointment as Governor of Upper Nile State.
