South Sudan’s First Vice-President and Chairman of the SPLM-IO, Dr. Riek Machar has issued a message of condolences on the death of Amb. Michael Mayil Chol, a senior government official who passed away on Tuesday following a short illness.
“I received with great sorrow the sad news of the sudden and untimely demise of Ambassador Michael Mayil Chol in Juba yesterday 29th December 2020,” said Dr. Riek Machar in a statement.
“On behalf of my entire family, 1 wish to convey at this stressful time my deepest condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the late as well as to the citizens of Unity state for the loss of Ambassador Michael Mayil Chol. He will be dearly missed by all,” he added.
Ambassador Michael Mayil Chol was a veteran politician — who served as the second governor of Unity state from 1995 to 1997 before the country got its independence from Sudan.
After South Sudan became an independent nation in July 2011, Michael was appointed as an ambassador and later on served as Head of Mission to the Republic of Ghana.
He was also appointed as Chairperson of Unity State Referendum Commission in 2011.
