Long-awaited reconstitution of R-TNA to be finalized today: Nhial Deng

The long-awaited reconstitution of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly is expected to be finalized today, February 15th, according to a statement issued by the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Hon. Nhial Deng Nhial.

“Further to the Press Statement issued on the outcome of the meeting of the Presidency that was held yesterday Tuesday, Feb 2, 2021, the Ministry of Presidential Affairs hereby wishes to declare that the said meeting also resolved that the (R-TGONU) shall finalize the reconstitution of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (R-TNLA) and the Council of States on or before February 15, 2021,” Nhial declared in a press release dated 03/02/2021.

Since last year, the he South Sudanese leaders have come under international pressure to dissolve and reconstitute the Transitional National Legislative Assembly in accordance with the provisions of the peace agreement.

In July 2020, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), during its virtual conference, issued an ultimatum calling on the unity government to urgently reconstitute the new R-TNA. However, the Kiir administration has been reluctant to take their demands into account.
