May 4, 2020 (Thessherald)–South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has met at the State House, with a delegation headed by former SPLM-IO senior official Hon. Dak Duop Bichiok.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, the senior officials who recently pledged allegiance to the Kiir administration urged members of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – IO denounce the rebellion and join the peace process under President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
“A delegation led by Former Senior SPLM IO member Dak Duop Bichiok who defected recently to President Salva Kiir Mayardit said, they don’t understand why some people are still supporting the leadership of SPLM IO under Dr. Riek Machar,” said the Presidency.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Thomas Maluit Hoth accused the SPLM-IO of nepotism and discrimination, saying the movement is being run without any clear reform agenda for the nation.
Former Minister of Petroleum Hon. Dak Duop declared his defection from the main armed opposition group, in April after accusing Machar of turning the movement into a family dynasty.
