July 27, 2020 (Thessherald)–At least 126 members have defected from the SPLM-IO and joined Hon. Dak Duop Bichiok under the leadership of President Salva Kiir Mayardit, citing what they called ‘nepotism in the movement.’

“We, the undersigned, former cadres of the SPLM/A-IO in the Arab republic of Egypt, who have served the movement for more than six years, do hereby announce our resignation from the SPLM/A-IO with effect from today, July 26, 2020.”

The group accused Machar of practising nepotism and corruption in the movement.

“Reasons are many, but the most obvious ones are as follows:

1- The SPLM/A IO has deviated from the vision and mission by practising nepotism and corruption, leading to a lack of transparency.

2- The implementation of Security Arrangements, one of the cornerstones of the peace agreement is moving at a snail’s pace.

“Therefore, due to the following reasons mentioned above, we the 126 former SPLM/A-IO political Cadres in the Arab Republic of Egypt have joined the government under the leadership of Hon. Dak Duop Bichiok, former minister of Petroleum.”

Former Petroleum Minister Dak Duop Bichiok resigned from the opposition SPLM-IO in April, and joined President Salva Kiir.

Dak was a leading member of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-IO headed by Dr. Riek Machar, who is now the country’s first vice president in accordance with the peace agreement.

The former Minister of Petroleum, Dak Duop was the first senior opposition official to abandon the opposition after the formation of the coalition government.

He defected along with other senior members of the SPLM-IO.

Nairobi: Gajaak Chairman disowns individuals purporting to be legit leaders

April 22, 2020 (Thessherald)–The Chairman of the Gajaak community in Nairobi, Kenya
Lul Kir Deng has disowned a group of young people who posed on social media as legitimate leaders of the Gajaak Community.

In response to a statement issued on Tuesday, the community leaders expressed their dismay at the letter bearing no official stamp and urged members of the public to remain calm and take no heed of the statement written by the group.

Official response to the purported Gajaak community condemnation letter on Hon. Dak Duop Bichiok

“In regards to the aforementioned subject, the mandated office of Gaajaak Community Association in Kenya, has on the evening of the 21″ day of April 2020, learned with dismay the purported letter written by a group of Gaajaak Community in Nairobi condemning the defection of Hon. Dak Duop Bichiok who on the 16h day of April 2020 pledged his allegiance to the SPLM-IG.

The Chairman of the community association clarified that the individuals who met on Tuesday do not represent their community leadership and have no connection whatsoever.

“The office of the chairman of Gaajaak Community in Kenya would therefore like to vividly make it known to the public that the group which met on April 21, 2020 – is not in any way the official leaders and therefore.”

The office of the Chairman noted that the persons listed below are the current recognized leaders of the communities.

 The Chairman of Gaajaak Community is still Lul Kir Deng and NOT Okuor Khoat Gach as purported.

 The Chairman of CODA is also Lul Kir Deng and NOT Chuol Deng Mat

 The Chairman of WADU Community is Pur Deng Pur and NOT Wutnyang Gatluak Muthiang

 The Chairman of Nyayan Community is John Luke Kunen and NOT David Nhial Kuon

 The BUDA and RUDA Communities in Kenya have been without leaders or official boards in place all this time.

 The Chairman of Mathiang Community, Samuel Buony Puk is the ONLY legitimate person Gaajaak Community recognizes.

The statement indicated that those who pledged their loyalty to Hon. Dak Duop joined the government on an individual basis.

“The team that defected in Nairobi-Kenya and welcomed the decision taken by Hon. Dak Duop Bichiok did NOT in any way state in their letter that the WHOLE Gaajaak Community in Nairobi defected. The team defected as individuals and therefore their defection has NOTHING to do the Community.”

“Without further ado, the office of the chairman therefore condemns in the strongest terms COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION IN possible the purported letter written by a group of Gaajaak Community members who assigned themselves titles randomly during their meeting.”

Machar was initially advised to appoint Hon. Dak in R-TGNU, but all fell on deaf ears: SPLM-IO official

April 16, 2020 (Thessherald)–A senior official of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement -IO says that he had initially written an official letter to the SPLM-IO Chairman,  Dr. Riek Machar, asking him to appoint  Hon. Dak Duop in the unity government but his suggestions were ignored.

“I write to report a phone conversation I had with Hon. Dak Duop Bichiok on 12th of April 2020, at around 7:40 am – 8:20 am, East African time.  As everyone knows, Hon. Dak Duop Bichiok played permanent roles in the leadership of the SPLM/A-IO.  His voice was vocal in the political affairs of the former Adar State and many people from Gajaak Community stood with him,” said Jordan Manpign Long
SPLM/A-IO Representative to Ethiopia & AU.

Jordan acknowledged that Hon. Dak Duop has played an active role since the outbreak of violence in 2013.

“Hon. Dak Duop Bichiok was a candidate for national ministry and earned a wider support from his constituency.  I personally spoke with Your Excellency on the phone persuading your esteem office to accommodate Hon. Dak in the R-TGoNU and other members of the Adar Administrative Area met with Your Excellency in person after he lost the race.”

“However, Hon. Dak Duop Bichiok single handedly became furious and increasingly outrage at Your Excellency and at the leadership of the SPLM/A-IO for losing the race.  This move is unfortunate.  Hon. Dak is a veteran politician who contested for countless political races.  He was not the only candidate, from Eastern Jikany, who contested for the national ministry allocated to the Upper Nile State and lost the race.”

The official revealed that despite numerous attempts to persuade the leadership of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – IO to consider Dak’s appointment, his suggestions were ignored and less attention was paid.

“On my phone conversation with him, Hon. Dak Duop Bichiok expressed dissatisfaction with the leadership of the SPLM/A-IO and wish to leave the movement.”

Former Minister of Petroleum, Hon. Dak Duop along with other 9 SPLMIO members resigned on Thursday and joined the unity government under President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
