South Sudan’s senior official praised for showing humility

April 13, 2020 (Thessherald)–The Undersecretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr Makur Koryom has received praise after he was sported riding an old bike mounted with loudspeakers to educate local communities about the preventive measures needed to combat COVID-19.

“Humility is an essential part of our lives, it is one of the important virtues when it comes to good leadership,” said Buay Kapduel, Founder and Director of The South Sudan Herald.

Buay emphasized that for one to set an example and be a successful political leader- they must be humble and see that all people are created equal and in turn – he will be respected.

“To be a successful leader, you must embrace humility – it’s a very important characteristic. It involves a number of traits that help you lead million of people and earn their respect,” he added.

He noted that South Sudan’s political and military leaders must be humble for them to gain the trust of the general public.

“One also has to adapt and take examples from the leadership of José Mujica, former President of Uruguay who served as the 40th president of Uruguay from 2010 to 2015. Many considered José one of the most humble presidents in the world.”

“According to his biography, Jose Mujica was an exemplary public servant. He used to donate 90 percent of his income to charitable organizations and lived in a makeshift farmhouse with his wife and three-legged dog.”

“He had no servant or bodyguards and refused to live a luxurious lifestyle. He preferred to live like other vulnerable communities. Mujica wore casual clothes, sometimes donned sandals on official functions and was never seen with a tie on neck,” Buay concluded.
