June 11, 2020 (Thessherald)–A Key commander leading an infamous armed group known as Gelweng has been killed and several others wounded during intense fighting between his forces and the SSPDF troops in South Sudan’s Lakes State.
According to a reliable source, the militia commander, Monydiar Maker was accused of aiding the newly formed rebel movement called the ‘7 October Movement’ headed by former businessman and philanthropist Kerbino Wol.
“Monydiar Maker and 10 others have been killed, including 7 women – at least 3 children were wounded during the fighting between SSPDF forces and Monydiar Group in Amokping Payam Rumbek East County Lakes State,” said the source who declined to be named.
“Monydiar was killed in serious confrontations as SSPDF stormed his hideout in one of the cattle camp,” the source added.
Kerbino Wol Agook, a former businessman, left the capital Juba for the bush to launch an armed rebellion against the Kiir administration.
On June 7, an SPLA-IO commander identified as Gabriel Bol Anuer, gave Kerbino Wol a 24-hour ultimatum to leave Lakes State immediately or risks being seized in the area.
“Karbino Wol should leave Lakes States territory within 24hrs. Failure to do so will provoked my sentiment. I have instructed anyone who claimed to be member of the SPLA-IO to report themselves to IO cantonment sites with immediate effect, or report to SSPDF if you are from SSPDF so that we hunt down any criminal roaming in Lakes States territory. Karbino is warned for mobilizing or starting his rebellion in Lakes States,” said Gabriel Bol in a Facebook post.
