Undersecretary of Ministry of Information dies in Khartoum

Oct 12, 2020 (Thessherald)–The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information, Telecommunications and Postal services, Paul Jacob Kumbo has passed on in the Sudanese capital Khartoum, following a brief illness.

In a statement, the state-run SSBC expressed its deep sorrow over the untimely death of its official in Sudan.

“We stand in solidarity with the SSBC family and telecommunication at this critical time,” the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation said on Sunday.

Paul took office in September following the sacking of former Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information Justin Aleer de Mayen.

Makuei suspends SSBC Managing Director over ‘intransigence and disobedience’

April 18, 2020 (Thessherald)–The Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Michael Makuei Lueth has suspended the Managing Director of the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), Mr. James Magok Chilim over what he called “intransigence and disobedience.”

In a Ministerial Order No 2/2020, Makuei instructed the Deputy Minister of ICT&PS to implement the Order with immediate effect.

“In Exercise of Powers vested upon me vide the Presidential Decree No.33/2020; and section 17 (2) read together with (7) and (8) of Broadcasting Corporation Act, 2013 and cognizant of the expired mandate of the Board of Directors of SSBC, I Michael Makuei Lueth, Minister of Information, Communication Technology & Postal Services in the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity and as the competent Minister in charge of Policy and guidance of South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) do hereby issue the following Ministerial order;

This order shall be cited as Ministerial Order No. 2/2020 for the suspension of the Managing Director of South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) for his intransigence, disobedience and incompetence in the management of the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) in violation of the guiding principles of Broadcasting Corporation Act, 2013.”

By this order;

  1. The Managing Director of South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), Mr. James Magok Chilim is hereby suspended without pay until further notice.
  2. Director General of South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) Mrs. Susan Alphonse shall act during the transition.
  3. Deputy Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services Hon. Baba Medan Konyi to ensure that this order is implemented with immediate effect.
